Jo an Mey DoP
After high school Jo works in the Art Trade.
He loves the lighting in the old pictures, the gallery was trading with.
So he started to learn something about emotional lighting.
First in some theatres in Germany , later in the film business.
In the middle of the 80s he worked in the famous Filmhaus
Company with “Bulle” Berndt (Hans Joachim Berndt) and Mike Schult.
Jo went into the Camera department and become Focus Puller and Operator.
Filmhaus got his own camera department with six 35mm cameras and
all the accessories. Lenses, filters, dolly light - everything you need to make a good film.
They travelled around the world and shot about 300 commercial films.
In 1991 Jo became freelance AC and worked about 5 years as a Focus Puller and operator. He worked with a lot of well known DoPs. For example, Mike Schult, Tom Fährmann, Martin Langer, Lajos Koltai, Egon Verdin, Joe Pender, John Wyatt, etc. In 1995 Jo started to shot his first films as a DoP for the Munich film school.
Shortly after this he was getting his first jobs in the film industrie, and shot music videos, commercials, TV films....
He worked with directors like Marcus O. Rosenmüller, Dennis Gansel, Marcel Kyrill Gardelli, Paul Harather, Manfred Stelzer, Peter Stauch, Michael Herbig, Ben Verbong, Volker Haak, Vinil Mathew, Michael Steinlein, Marco Ray Jaggi, Thomas Jauch and some more....
Since today he shot more than one hundred commercial films, music videos, feature films.
Jo is also working as a Photographer.
